Eight runners have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes (2000m); offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Kermadec ($3) has received steady support in 2015 Caulfield Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au this week and remains favourite for success ahead of Fawkner ($4.20), Pornichet ($6) and clear market mover Criterion ($6.50).
Will Kermadec justify favouritism and win the 2015 Caulfield Stakes or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Winner of the 2014 edition of the Caulfield Stakes, Fawkner has returned to racing in typically slick form this time and will be hard to beat on Saturday from barrier 4. Posting eleven wins and nine minors through 28 career starts so far, the Reset gelding produced a huge turn of foot to take out the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) first-up and was unlucky not to repeat the dose when second in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) last time out. Craig Williams has picked up the ride on Fawkner following regular hoop Damien Oliver’s suspension and should deliver the eight-year-old a dream ride.
Criterion will contest the Caulfield Stakes as a first point of call following a promising trip abroad, and should be carried a long way towards success by his class. Returning this year for third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), the Sebring entire progressed to second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) before posting a career-best result when savaging the line for success in the major Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships. Michael Walker will take the ride on Criterion for the first time, but completed a strong piece of work on the champion racehorse earlier this week.
French import Pornichet has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time and offers punters sensational value for money at current Caulfield Stakes odds. Capping a strong autumn and winter campaign with maiden success at the highest level in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m), the Vespone entire returned this time for second in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) on August 22nd; progressing to sixth in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) before running on for third in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) last time.
