Having returned to racing in career-best form this time in, trainer Peter Moody has nominated Dissident for the 2014 Caulfield Stakes.

Securing five race wins and a further six minor places from his 16 competitive appearances on course so far, Dissident performed to a high standard over the 2014 Autumn Carnival; finishing second in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up before winning the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and securing a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) most notably on March 15th.

Unlucky to be scratched for the final fields on each of his two first-up targets this time in, the Sebring entire has been almost perfect in winning both the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) and finishing an agonizingly close second when carry the race’s top weight in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last time out.

Appearing to have returned to racing in typically scintillating form this time in, Fawkner has been nominated for a return to his ideal racing distance in the 2014 Caulfield Stakes.

A standout performer for Macedon Lodge over the 2013 Spring Carnival, Fawkner steadily built to the task in finishing seventh in the Group 3 Tramway Stakes (1400m), fifth in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and third in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) before completing a career-best performance to win the featured Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 19th; returning to the paddock after running a credible sixth in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m).

Finishing a close second to Dissident in the Makybe Diva Stakes first-up this year, the Reset gelding is on track for an appearance in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) on October 25th and is a leading chance of success this weekend.

Claiming five wins and six places from nineteen starts so far, Criterion was one of the autumn season’s standouts and is eyeing a return to Group 1 glory in the 2014 Caulfield Stakes this weekend.

Running fourth in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) first-up before finishing a close second to Shamus Award in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m), the son of Sebring appeared out of sorts when finishing eighth in the Randwick Guineas, but responded in the best way possible when taking out both the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) in succession.

Finishing third in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and second in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) most notably over three starts this time in, trainer David Payne is confident a return to 2000m in top company will see a return to the winner’s circle for Criterion.

Carrying winning form into the 2014 Caulfield Stakes after taking out the George Main Stakes last time out, trainer Chris Waller has nominated Sacred Falls for the 2014 Caulfield Stakes.

Returning to the track in arguably career best form this year, Sacred Falls finished fourth in both the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and George Ryder Stakes before successfully defending his 2013 crown in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) on Day 1 of The Championships; returning to the paddock after finishing second to It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) just one week later.

Again finishing fourth in both the Warwick Stakes and Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) prior to his George Main win on September 20th, Waller is confident the O’reilly entire will react well to a step-up to 2000m this weekend.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Caulfield Stakes is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
